Exit Glacier, a tiny 3 mile ice apendage, part of the 35 mile long by 20 mile wide Harding Icefield inside the Kenai Fjords National Park can be seen up close with a short half mile hike to the glacier's terminus. A overlook trail can also be taken to view Exit's decent of 2,500 feet from the Harding Icefield.
The highly compressed and oxygen depleted ice renders wonderful shades of transparent blue as house sized chunks calve with a thunderous boom sometimes heard 20 miles away.
